Marije Paternotte
Marije (pronounced "Mariah") was born and raised in Amsterdam, where, after
training to be a professional ballet dancer, she studied law and worked as a corporate attorney. A yoga retreat in Bali led her to the United States, where she took her first yoga teacher training in 2009 — and she's been there ever since.
She currently lives in Coal Creek Canyon with her husband and two cats, and teaches yoga workshops, retreats, and teacher trainings around the world.
Marije trained at YogaPod to teach podFIT. She loves the challenge of a podFIT class, while finding the method inclusive and fun — with an invitation to show up exactly as you are. In her classes, she combines years of ballet and Pilates training with her background as a collegiate rower, creating intelligent sequences set to
great music.
Furthermore, Marije received both her foundational and professional yoga
teacher certifications at the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in Massachusetts, and is endorsed to teach Insight Yoga by Sarah and Ty Powers, after completing a 500+ hour curriculum that included numerous silent meditation retreats, several yin yoga teacher trainings, and study of Buddha Dharma and psycho-
spiritual self-inquiry. She also teaches for the Prison Yoga Project.
Her teaching style is understated and compassionate — she presents complex
concepts and in-depth knowledge of yogic anatomy and philosophy in a simple, approachable way, earning her the love of beginning and advanced practitioners alike.
Marije’s biggest aim is to bring more Light and Love into the world.
