Matt Kapinus
In 1995, Matt moved to Boulder from Hyattsville, Maryland. He fell in love with Boulder, its majestic beauty and openhearted community. Matt discovered yoga during a time in his life when he felt painfully stuck. He experienced its power as a means to moving energy and awakening self-love. Matt studied Baptiste-style power Vinyasa, and completed his 200- hour teacher certification in 2007. Two years later, he quit his job of twelve years and turned his focus to developing as a yoga teacher and student. Matt teaches classes that are nurturing and challenging. He encourages compassion for one’s self and strives to connect people with their own innate divinity. "Yoga is not about being flexible or even making yourself flexible. It is about meeting your inflexibility with kindness and curiosity. Yoga can be felt as the union between the limitless self and the separate self, between the global soul and the ego. During the asana practice we hold ourselves in gentleness underneath the challenge of the postures. We find our true selves by coming into our bodies with love rather than an agenda to fix or change something. We let ourselves feel, with extraordinary presence and honesty, the deep ache of being a human being. We seek to evolve and grow but still consistently allow self-compassion and grace to flourish beneath our effort."
